I am an ADVOCATE for clients in connection with FISCAL matters. Or in Latin,
| Advocati fusci. In civil law, those chosen by the emperor to argue his cause whenever a question arose affecting his revenues. (Black's Law Dictionary, Fifth Edition) |
The CPA's Professional Code of Conduct allows me to be an advocate for clients with respect to tax and other nonaudit services as long as the client representation is done with Objectivity and Integrity.
As an independent consultant I represent clients and their advisors with respect to:
- California Tax Matters; including individual income, corporate franchise, and sales tax. This representation takes place during
- Planning
- Audits
- Protests and
- Administrative Appeals
- State and local tax issues regardless of state, with emphasis on NEXIS - when a state has jurisdiction based on activities within that state to require you to remit income, franchise, or sales/use taxes. Taxpayers subject to taxes in more than one state are generally referred to as Mobile Taxpayers.
Issues that arise in the case of a mobile taxpayer include:
- Allocation and apportionment of business income among the states
- For individual taxpayers, assist in the determination of which state has the right to tax individual income based on residence, domicile, and source of income. This includes relocation that might be appropriate for minimizing tax
When doing state and local tax work for California or any other state, we can consult directly with the Taxpayer, or work through existing legal or CPA counsel for the Taxpayer. Contact me to discuss how effective representation can be accomplished.
- Based on over forty years of experience, I serve as a Consultant or Expert in litigation involving accounting and tax issues
- With dedicated individuals and proper training any CPA firm can develop a niche market in state and local tax matters, and I would be pleased to accept engagements to assist in the development of that market
- Consulting directly with CPA firms to assure compliance with compliance for the CPA firm with multi-state registration for cross-border practices
